Strong Oratory Skills
Presidents with strong oratory skills are able to use their eloquent and engaging speeches to have a significant impact on their society and country. They are not only able to inform their listeners, but change their emotions. All great Presidents should have good communication and oratorical abilities. Being a good speaker means that they are able to speak effectively with power and persuade the Americans that they are leading. They can either make or break their careers on the basis of a successful or unsuccessful speech.
1. President Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan, “The Great Communicator,” was a conviction speaker with an ideological message, and the perfect background as an actor and radio speaker. His rhetorical skills propelled his political career, and contributed to his presidential election success. Reagan’s great oratory talent helped him to guide the nation and advance his own popularity as President. He was able to use his knowledgeable, hopeful, and effective speeches to symbolize the actions that would lead the nation to prosperity.
2. President Harry S. Truman
Harry S. Truman’s presidency has initially been seen as negative through various assessments, but people’s views eventually became a little more positive after his retirement from politics. Still, Truman had the talents of an excellent speaker. He is famous for his plain speaking, and his presidential rhetoric is evaluated in terms of his most important speeches relating to the Cold war and Korean War. Unlike many Presidents, Truman was able to speak to the people with unbiased facts and always went straight to the point of the topic.
3. President Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was able to lead the United States through several of its greatest constitutional, military, and moral crises. At first he was not seen as the next president during his time of presidential elections, but his oratory skills and personal presence soon made him the leading candidate. His profound speeches were short, but they were always greatly significant. Lincoln’s speeches were always about the issues at hand and the nation as a whole. He had a way with his words, and they always created emotion with his audiences. Lincoln’s rhetoric is popularly known around the country for a good reason, and he is still considered to be one of the best orators to occupy the White House.
4. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped the American people regain their faith and confidence through his eloquent speeches. He was able to bring hope through his prompt and vigorous actions as well. FDR is most known for his series of mesmerizing radio talks, fireside chats, where he presented his proposals to the American public directly. This informal method allowed him to speak to the people from within their own homes. Roosevelt not only spoke for the historical record, but he spoke to the individual citizens.
5. President Barack Obama
Barack Obama uses his public speaking skills to good effect. He pauses in the right places, gestures appropriately, and uses suitable body language. Obama clearly and fully knows every single word he is saying, and how to work an audience. He is also not just giving a speech, but in a way having a conversation with the American people. Using his excellent rhythm he has the ability to respond to any reaction from the audience, either it be verbal or non-verbal. He is able to insert humor, and add or adjust any words that he has prepared for the better.
6. President Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton is a smooth talker who uses his charm and charisma to appeal to the American people. He correctly utilizes emotion when he speaks, but always has clear and concise logical reasoning to what he says. Clinton’s presentation and delivery is unique. He is able to evoke vivid mental images for his audience, and make the people feel as if he speaking only to them. He has an oratory gift that allows him to deviate and alter any remarks and words that come towards him.
